King George IV, at the time of Prince Regent began building his own pleasure palace - the ridiculously opulent Pavilion - there in 1787. Georgian townhouses lined up facing the English Channel. The Promenade boats wrought iron and ornate streets lamps, the last remaining pier looks as typically English. Beneath the promenade at beach level are Victorian arches that today house art galleries cafes, bars a locally famous clairvoyant, and stores with souvenirs.  Formed in 1860, the Brighten Swimming club, ducking out the door to swim the frigid English Channel. Along the beach front, is the Brighton Fishing Museum. Shelled whelks to be served.  In a tunnel under the promenade, musical murals of history. Dusty Springfield of ABBA got ( their) big break in 1974, winning a singing contest (her parents lived nearby). Many photographs to be taken for sure. Chocolate to be eaten, the old shop is gone but a new one opened (see Link).
